Richard Schwartz, PhD Related seminars and products


Richard Schwartz began his career as a systemic family therapist and an academic and he is now on the Faculty of the Department of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School. He is also a Senior Fellow of the Meadows treatment center in Arizona. Grounded in systems thinking, Dr. Schwartz developed the Internal Family Systems model (IFS) model in response to    clients’ descriptions of various parts within themselves.

In 2000, he founded the IFS Institute (www.ifs-institute.com), which offers three levels of trainings and workshops in IFS for professionals and the general public, both in this country and abroad. A featured speaker for national professional organizations, Dr. Schwartz has    published many books and over fifty articles about IFS.


Mariel Pastor, M.A. Related seminars and products


Mariel Pastor, MA, LMFT, is an IFS Lead Trainer and consultant based in Portland, Oregon. Trained in IFS since 1998, she leads workshops and retreats on the Unburdened System mandala internationally and online. She is the principal author of the IFS Institute Level 1 Participant Training Manual and is Co-founder and Clinical Director of the IFS Telehealth Collective, a multi-state group practice with IFS-trained and licensed clinicians.  Mariel is a compelling teacher widely known for her clarity, warmth, and humor.  She has a special interest in Integral Psychology and incorporates somatic psychotherapies and spirituality within the framework of IFS.  Her previous work in the entertainment industry and love of working with artists inspired her to create Character Mapping – an experiential psychological toolbox for actors, writers, and directors to create authentic characters and to use the craft to find their Selves.  Information about all of these offerings can be found at www.marielpastor.com


Objectives

Month 1
  1. Analyze IFS shorthand language used in session to determine impact on client’s well-being.
  2. Analyze two IFS client sessions for purposes of therapist education.
  3. Demonstrate meditation and mindfulness as it relates to working with client in session.
  4. Complete a review of several core principals of IFS theory.
  5. Analyze the Self-Spectrum to illustrate the fluidity of the Self.
Month 2
  1. Perform mindfulness exercise to identify parts’ wants.
  2. Differentiate parts and roles.
  3. Investigate relationship with Self energy with Trailheads to Transformation exercise.
  4. Execute an unburdening exercise to identify parts of client and therapist.
Month 3
  1. Integrate IFS skills that work with self-like parts into practice with therapy clients. 
  2. Implement techniques to help clients unburden their self-like parts.
  3. Determine which self-like parts and IFS interventions that can be used to effectively change and transform behavior.
  4. Create effective methods to help clients understand how parts might be causing or contributing to physical health challenges. 
Month 4
  1. Assess how to harvest resources from the unburdened system, including explaining vertical and horizontal connection to self-energy and elaborating on the many forms of self-energy.
  2. Apply IFS treatment strategies to bringing parts together around a vision or goal and utilizing rituals to reconnect.
  3. Investigate and categorize self-like parts.
  4. Demonstrate how to harvest resources from the unburdened system using IFS treatment strategies via live consultation.
