Richard Schwartz began his career as a systemic family therapist and an academic and he is now on the Faculty of the Department of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School. He is also a Senior Fellow of the Meadows treatment center in Arizona. Grounded in systems thinking, Dr. Schwartz developed the Internal Family Systems (IFS) model in response to clients’ descriptions of various parts within themselves. In 2000, he founded the Center for Self Leadership (now IFS Institute - www.ifs-institute.com), which offers three levels of trainings and workshops in IFS for professionals and the general public, both in this country and abroad. A featured speaker for national professional organizations, Dr. Schwartz has published many books and over fifty articles about IFS.

Financial: Dr. Richard Schwartz is the Founder and President of the IFS Institute (formerly the Center for Self Leadership). He maintains a private practice and has employment relationships with Harvard Medical School and Northwestern University. Dr. Schwartz is a published author and receives royalties. Dr. Huckabee is a Pediatric Neuropsychologist, Clinical Psychologist and Board Certified Behavior Analyst. A nationally recognized expert in Developmental Disabilities, Autism Spectrum Disorders and Trauma, she coauthored a leading text on Autism Assessment, “Assessment of Autism Spectrum Disorders,” in 2016. Dr. Huckabee was recognized for her forensic and expert witness work by being named Neuropsychology Expert of the Year by Lawyer Monthly in 2017.
After moving to the U.S. from Canada, Dr. Huckabee received her bachelor’s degree in Geological Engineering from the Colorado School of Mines and her Master’s and Doctorate degrees in Clinical Psychology from the University of Houston. Following her studies, she completed her Internship at Baylor College of Medicine with Post Doctoral Fellowships at DePelchin Children’s Center and JFK Partners at the University of Colorado.
Dr. Huckabee’s diverse clinical experiences include working with autism, trauma, borderline personality disorder, head injury, AD/HD, developmental disabilities, adoption, anxiety, and mood disorders. Additionally, Dr. Huckabee is highly trained in Internal Family Systems Therapy (IFS) therapy. With compassion and competence, Dr. Huckabee provides counseling for both individuals and couples. Her research studies have involved understanding intelligence and language skills in children with autism, the role of serotonin in mood disorders, self-injurious behaviors, brain anoxia, and treatment outcome in autism. Prior to founding Emerge, she held administrative leadership positions at five clinics for autism. She is a member of the American Psychological Association, the Colorado Neuropsychological Society and the Association for Behavior Analysis.
Dr. Huckabee’s tenacity in blending her roles as both a clinician and a business leader ensures that Emerge’s clinical standards of practice are not compromised by business decisions. Her business leadership decisions are influenced by years of experience as a seasoned Neuropsychologist / Behavior Analyst and deep knowledge regarding what constitutes high-quality clinical care.
When not working, Dr. Huckabee enjoys running, gardening, and cooking. She is also a mother to her medically fragile, adult son with autism and her teenage daughter adopted from China.
